as you said, there will be a pre-load preformance improvement with the next maintenance release 853

As far as I know there is no workaround for existing releases of the Notes Client. On there server there is the xsp.applicatin.timeout setting that can be used to keep the application in memory longer than the default 30mis if the application is not being used.

I guess you are talking about the very initial release. Performace profiling has been inlcuded in a each subsequent release of XPages, especially around startup performance and memory consumption, so it should be better than previous releases.
